Actor Emile Hirsch was sentenced to serve 15 days in jail on Monday for misdemeanor assault at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

The "Into The Wild" star, who was in Park City, Utah to premiere his film "10,000 Saints," pleaded guilty to assaulting Paramount Digital VP Daniele Bernfeld on January 25 at Tao Nightclub, Vanity Fair reported.

Bernfeld told police that Hirsch put her in a chokehold from behind, dragged her across a table and body-slammed her to the floor. Hirsch said he was heavily intoxicated the night of the incident and has no memory of the events that transpired. The actor checked himself into a rehab shortly after charges were filed against him.

Under the plea deal, 30-year-old Hirsch is required to pay a fine of $4,750 and do 50 hours of community service in addition to his 15-day jail sentence. If Hirsch fails to meet these requirements, he will go to jail for a year. If he meets the criteria, the charge will be dismissed, according to Deadline.

"I know it was completely wrong and reckless and irresponsible," Hirsch said Monday in court. "I have no excuses for not remembering. I put those chemicals inside me," according to The Associated Press.

Bernfeld wasn't happy with Hirsch's plea. "The punishment does not fit the crime," she said. "If a violent attack in front of a roomful of witnesses can be labeled a misdemeanor and dismissed, what of women who are assaulted while alone in hallways or bathrooms, or behind the closed doors of their own homes," she added.
