When tiny Chihuahua puppy was found hiding under a kiddie swimming pool at Antioch Animal Services play yard, he had severe chemical burns on his tummy, chest and ears.

Fireman who was barely six-weeks-old was brought to Umbrella of Hope Rescue for immediate treatment of his burns in various stages of healing, manifesting that the dog was abused multiple times. He was given the name Fireman.

"He became very fearful of being handled and disliked being pressured, his reaction was to bite. Fireman's physical body was healing, but inside his little mind was in turmoil," foster mom, Kristy Keusch said, in an article she wrote on East County Today.

Fireman was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by a behaviorist because of the abuse he suffered. He even refused to be put on a leash. When he was ready for adoption, the Umbrella of Hope received many calls and requests.

A girl named Chloe was allowed to adopt Fireman because she had a similar experience and could understand Fireman better, the Dodo said. The 12-year-old girl was burned when she was a baby and had undergone seven surgeries related to her burn injuries.

Fireman needs someone with a lot of patience, and knowing Chloe's past, she can absolutely provide that for the dog. With Chloe by his side, healing will be a lot easier for Fireman.
