Former "American Idol" contestant Constantine Maroulis was arrested Wednesday, as previously reported by HNGN, for domestic violence against the mother of his child, Angelina Reed. Now his rep is explaining that he was actually "the victim" of the attack, not the aggressor.

After the incident, Maroulis was taken to jail. He was quickly released on bail, and his rep denied he kicked Reed. Now that the story is getting twisted to make Maroulis seem like the bad guy, his rep, Howard Bragman, released a statement describing exactly what happened.

It all started when Maroulis told Reed he was leaving her because of her "continued instability." "She became angry and began attacking him," Bragman told Us Weekly. "During the course of the attack, she hit him with her fists and threw numerous objects at him. He sustained a bruise and cut on his right thigh. He did not throw her to the ground or kick her in the groin during this incident."

Bragman went on to explain that Maroulis simply left the home for his own safety and "to diffuse the situation."

After news broke, people were quick to assume Maroulis was guilty because of what Reed told the police when she called 911 on him. But, it turns out, Reed attacked Maroulis in the past and these instances were reported to the police.

"When all the facts come out, it will be clear that Mr. Maroulis was the victim here and Ms. Reed was the aggressor," his rep continued. "Mr. Maroulis intends to defend himself vigorously, as well as protect his child, both in the court of law and, as necessary, in the court of public opinion, and is confident that he will be completely vindicated when the truth is known."

He then went on to say that Maroulis "thanks his family, friends, fans, and supporters for their continued faith and trust in him during this challenging time."

Reed has declined to make any comments on the incident.
