Katie Holmes looks like a completely different person on the set of her new movie, "All We Had." The actress is shooting the film in Queens, N.Y. and is rocking an acid washed denim dress on the set. The super-short strapless ensemble is very uncharacteristic for the normally sleek and put together Holmes.

In "All We Had," Holmes plays a struggling single mother of a 13-year-old, according to Us Weekly. The mother-daughter duo must leave their California home and head east in a Ford Escort to find themselves a new home among a town of eccentric residents, People reported.

The film also marks the actress's directorial debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "All We Had" is based off the book of the same name and is the first novel by painter and sculptor Annie Weatherwax.

"Katie has such a clear vision for the book's irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship. Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone's ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of every day, will truly bring these characters to life," Jane Rosenthal, the film's producer, said in a statement last September.
