Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has brazenly fired at India's premier political family, the Gandhis, on Tuesday, stating that the family seems unable to stomach the idea of a person outside the clan being capable of running the country. His statement came as his final push for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill ended up being shot down to continuous disruptions as it was being introduced in Parliament, according to The Economic Times

"They have taken the 2014 defeat badly. The Congress and their two top leaders are unable to accept that anyone outside the Gandhi family can rule India. It is high time that they accept it and drop their negative approach," he said.

Jaitley attempted to introduce the constitutional amendment bill after incorporating previous suggestions from the House panel. However, no discussions were pursued do to disruptions and verbal protests from the Congress. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, did not demand her party members stand down during the disruptions, reports NDTV.

"Unfortunately the Congress is in a self destruct mode. We do not grudge that. But in the process, it wants not only to disrupt India's Parliament but also create obstacles in the path of national growth," Jaitley said.

The finance minister further said that disruptionist politics is a dangerous practice for the Congress and the country itself. He appealed to the country's primary opposition party to "see reason and come on the path of cooperation particularly in relation to policies they themselves had at one stage proclaimed."

"We on behalf of the government, along with the support of all parties who are supporting the GST, are determined to pursue this and will take all correct measures politically and constitutionally to achieve this goal," he added.

India has recently caught the eye of the international community after it banned hundreds of pornographic sites across the country, as HNGN previously reported, only to have most of the sites reinstated, also covered by HNGN.
