MeBai, a 7-year-old elephant was apart from her mom for three years, but neither forgot each other despite the long years being apart.

Baby elephants are taken away from their mothers at an early age, just like what happened to MeBai, who became a slave to the Thai tourist industry, where she carried tourists on her back.

Because Me-Bai is too young, she began to lose weight and could not carry the tourists any longer, a YouTube video description said. Me-Bai was then brought to Elephant Nature Park.

The elephant's owner moved Me-Bai out of the riding business because of failing health and allowed her to join the "Pamper A Pachyderm" program at Elephant Nature Park.

Soon, Lek Chailert of the Elephant Nature Park discovered that MeBai's mother, Mae Yui, was residing in a tourist camp more than 60 miles away at the Karen Tribe village.

"When Mae Yui and MeBai met, it seemed both of them were shocked and they held quiet, silent for half an hour," Chailert wrote about the reunion on Facebook.

"We all stand there silent with them and want to see what will happen. And then they began to talk, MeBai and her mother joining trunks, hugging each other and talking non-stop, 3 1/2 (years) of catching up - it is a lot of things for them to share on their experiences," Chailert added.

Because of the touching encounter, the owners of Mae Yui agreed to release her. Both elephants are currently being rehabilitated to prepare for their return to the wild.
