William Shatner paid tribute to his late "Star Trek" costar Leonard Nimoy with the help of some 6,000 fans. A collection of Trekkie selfies with the iconic Vulcan salute were used to create a mosaic of Nimoy's legendary character Mr. Spock, reported the Washington Post.

Earlier this month, Shatner tweeted out a vague message to his 2.25 million followers instructing them to take selfies of themselves holding up the Live Long and Prosper (LLAP) sign and then email the photos to a Gmail address dedicated to the Nimoy tribute, according to CNN.

Shatner said he got about 6,000 replies over the span of four days, reported Mashable. He unveiled the final project yesterday when he tweeted a mosaic made in the likeness of Mr. Spock.

The mosaic was created for GISHWHES, actor Misha Collins' global charity scavenger hunt, which funds the nonprofit organization Random Acts that is dedicated to spreading random acts of kindness, reported CNN. Random Acts has broken world records for most global hugs.

Shatner also tweeted that he submitted the crowd-sourced mosaic to be considered for the Guinness Book of World Records.

Nimoy passed away in February at 83 years old after complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
