A college football player was shot and killed during a struggle with a police officer Friday morning, according to the Associated Press. The 19-year-old crashed a car through a car dealership window and was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

Officers arrived at the scene at 1 a.m. after responding to a report of a burglary in progress at the car dealership in Arlington, Texas, The Washington Post reported.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the student as Christian Taylor, a sophomore at Angelo State University in San Angelo.

Police say that they confronted Taylor at the scene when a fight ensued. After that, at least one officer fired his weapon, killing the college athlete, according to the Washington Post.

Taylor was shot by 49-year-old Officer Brad Miller, who had been with the department since September 2014 but graduated from the academy in March, the New York Daily News reported.

Prior to this incident, Taylor had no convictions but was sentenced to six months' probation in December for possession of a controlled substance.  The case was dismissed on July 14, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Arlington officers are currently not in possession of body cameras, and no security video has been found capturing the altercation.

Officer Brad Miller has been placed on customary administrative leave since the shooting, and an investigation is underway, according to The Washington Post.
