Chris Hyndman, co-host of the CBC television show "Steven and Chris," was found dead in eastern Toronto on Monday night, according to police, CBC News reported.

"It is with profound sadness that we share the news Christopher Hyndman died early this morning. We extend our deepest sympathies to Steven, family, friends and colleagues; our thoughts are with them all," read a statement on the lifestyle show's Facebook page.

Toronto police said they found 49-year-old Hyndman without vital signs in an alley located close to his apartment, where he lived with Steven Sabados, his off-screen partner and television co-host.

"Out of privacy the Toronto police will not discuss any matter unless there's a criminal element pertaining to a specific person," Toronto police Const. Caroline de Kloet said Tuesday afternoon.

Det. Terry Wray said that the investigation is underway and that the police would not comment or provide further details until the interviews are conducted.

Hyndman and Sabados founded their own design company, "The Sabados Group," and made their first appearance on television in 2001 with the lifestyle series "Designer Guys," on HGTV. Two additional HGTV series, "Design Rivals," and "So Chic with Steven and Chris" followed the show. The couple daily lifestyle show "Steven and Chris" premiered on CBC in 2008, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
