"Guardians of the Galaxy" is an awesome movie for several reasons. The main ones being that it's hilarious, action-packed and surprisingly emotional. But beyond the deep friendships that are formed between our titular heroes, there is another relationship that interests fans even more.

Who is Peter Quill/Star-Lord's father?

At the end of "Guardians," it is revealed that Chris Pratt's Star-Lord is only half-human. His mother is from Earth while his father is described as "something ancient; something we've never seen before." Quill's mother says that he was composed entirely of light, like an angel. Hmmm.

So who is this guy? Writer and director James Gunn has promised that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will explore the question, but that film won't hit theaters for two years. So, in the meantime, here are a couple educated guesses.

(Side Note: Gunn has already said that Quill's father is not the same character as the one in the comics).

1. Starhawk

"In addition to being a part of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the 31st century the character has been described by James Gunn as being one of his favorites from the comics, and he has specifically said that he will be bringing his favorite character to the sequel," Eric Eisenberg of Cinema Blend wrote.

Plus, Starhawk's appearance could be described as angelic as he sports an impressive set of wings and a halo-like object on his head. The physical description matches up pretty well here.

2. Adam Warlock

"This idea has largely been driven by the fact that the guy is incredibly powerful (which would explain Star-Lord's DNA boost), and that in the comics he is the possessor of the Soul Stone - one of the key Infinity Stones that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been slowly revealing," Eisenberg continued.

Fans thought Warlock was a distinct possibility after they spotted his iconic cocoon in The Collector's layer. However, Gunn shot those rumors down by saying it was purely an aesthetic choice. Still, the director could just be playing coy with fans.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
