Fans have been eagerly awaiting director Christopher Nolan's next project ever since the divisive but ambitious "Interstellar" hit theaters in late 2014. Now, it appears as if that wait has gotten a bit shorter.

Complex Movies is reporting that Nolan has finished a comprehensive draft of the screenplay for his next film and that some more concrete news on the mystery project is expected in the coming weeks.

It is unknown if he collaborated on the screenplay with his longtime writing partner and brother Jonathan Nolan or if this was an individual effort. We are also unsure if this new concept is yet another original blockbuster idea in the vein of "Interstellar" and "Inception" or if it is an adaptation of preexisting material. After all, Nolan really became ingrained to mainstream movie fans through his "Dark Knight" trilogy.

Nolan is the rare director who is able to marry a complex and interesting concept with blockbuster results. Although the box office returns for "Interstellar" were slightly underwhelming on the domestic front ($188 million vs $484.7 foreign), the movie still extended Nolan's streak of crossing the half billion mark to four straight films.

We'll keep you updated as more details begin to emerge.
