An unnamed Dallas girl died in a hot car Friday afternoon after her parents failed to realize that she was still inside.

The family returned home after an outing to Fair Park and went inside their house to take naps, according to USA Today. "[The girl's] parents stated that they believed all children had exited the vehicle when they returned home," said police spokeswoman Senior Cpl. Melinda Gutierrez in a written statement.

The 2-year-old was discovered in her child safety seat when her father went back outside later in the day, according to Inquisitr. "He immediately removed the child from the vehicle and took her inside, where he called 911 as the mother performed CPR for approximately 30 minutes," said Gutierrez. She was then driven to Children's Medical Center, where the girl was pronounced dead some time after 7 p.m.

The Child Abuse Unit Investigators have been brought on to work this case. So far, no charges have been filed as police continue to investigate the incident, according to SF Gate. It's unknown if the parents will face charges of child neglect in the future.

The National Weather Service reported that the high temperature at Love Field in Dallas reached 98 degrees Friday afternoon. KidsandCars.org says that, on average, 38 children die each year from heat-related deaths after being trapped in vehicles.
