Humans weren't the only ones that got free ice cream on National Ice Cream Day in the U.S., as dogs received some treats, too.

PetSmart PetsHotel provided free dog-safe ice cream to pets looking for a sweet treat, which are available in all PetSmart store locations including Canada and Puerto Rico, Palm Beach Post reported.

The dogs received a four-ounce complimentary serving of dog-safe ice cream, while supplies last.

"The PetSmart PetsHotel add-on services are designed to provide extra enjoyment to your pet's stay, and there's no better way for your pet to cool down on a warm summer day than with our pet-safe ice cream," said Cory Zignego, director, PetSmart, PetsHotel Services.

But if you are unable to visit PetsHotel for the free ice cream, PetSmart shared the recipe for a peanut butter banana ice cream, so you can make ice cream for your furry friends at home.

All you need are two cups of plain yogurt, one banana (mashed or cut into small chunks), two tablespoons of peanut butter and two tablespoons of honey. The ingredients are mixed in a blender or whisked together. The mixture is then placed on a small cup or ice cube tray and then freezes. When frozen, the ice cream is ready to serve! PetSmart said that the prep time is about two minutes.

Treats can also be sprinkled on top of the ice cream, People Pets suggested.
