An emaciated canine that was starving and left primarly in a backyard in Mexico was rescued by Cats and Dogs International (CANDi). The dog was discovered by photographer Tracey Buyce who was also a board member of CANDi.

The dog's owner could no longer afford to buy food for the dog, which accounted for her "near death" condition. Buyce convinced the owner to relinquish Luna to her rescue group, and then she rushed her to a local vet. The vet discovered that she was expereincing starvation and had cancer that was treatable.

Luna recovered after two years and is now a happy and healthy dog! She has gained weight and turned into a gorgeous dog. She was adopted by a family in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Photos of Luna and her new family showcase the dog's new and happy life – like this one where she is sneaking a lick from an ice cream cone and hanging out with a chocolate Lab that is also part of the family.

"She's super sweet," Buyce said, according to The Dodo. "She fit in with that family like it's always been her home. I really feel like it was meant to be."
