The "immortal" Kia, a Jack Russell/collie mix, was found wandering around Loughborough, England. A dog warden found her and took her to a kennel. Shane Duffin, co-founder of One Paw at a Time Dog Rescue, was visiting the kennel and, once he found out about Kia, decided to bring her to his rescue home.

Kia did have microchip. However, when they tried to locate her family, there was no longer a house at the address on the chip, which was first registered in 1996.

"We have never really heard of a house not being there before, but we have never had a dog that was registered in 1996," said Duffin, according to the Leicester Mercury. "She is 19 going on 20, that is the youngest she can be. I am surprised she has lasted that long. She has a lot of energy for a 19-year-old dog. A lot of people are surprised at how mobile she is."

A Jack Russell usually lives for 14 years and a collie 13 years—and Kia outlived both of those time frames!

"She is, literally, going from strength to strength," Kia's foster parent, who did not want to be named, told the Leicester Mercury. "Nobody can believe she is 19. My vet thinks she is immortal. She said she is the oldest dog she has ever seen. She is in brilliant condition."

Kia is receiving free food for the rest of the year from Nutriment Raw, a family-owned business committed to providing top tier raw pet food.
