People who are cat-obsessed but do not have time to raise their own pet would be happy to know about this new trend in animal adoption - renting a kitten.

Kitten rentals could provide temporary homes to kittens that are too young to live on their own in shelters. This new program of the Humane Society of Silicon Valley is a re-branding to their already popular practice of animal fostering.

Spring and summer is "kitten season" when more kittens come to the shelter, so, more volunteers are needed during this season since the shelter relies on them to take care of the felines.

"We seem to have a never-ending stream of kittens available," Finnegan Dowling, spokesperson at the Humane Society Silicon Valley said according to the Huffington Post. "There's a lot of awesome people who love kittens, would have a blast doing it and would do a great job."

Renting a kitten is completely free. The shelter will also provide all the supplies needed to take care of the kittens to make sure that the foster program will be successful. Fostering the kittens will also ensure that the homeless pets will get socialized, loved and are healthy.

Once a volunteer decides to bring the rental kitten home, they can easily convert to a "rent-to-own" situation and are allowed to adopt the kitten.

This isn't the first time that kittens are being rented. In Las Cruces, N.M., there is an entire library with over 100 kittens that is dedicated to spending time with the cats, CBS News reported. The program doesn't just benefit the kittens, but it is also a stress reliever for the workers.
