A woman was arrested after she allegedly doused Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake in water at a festival in the city's northwest, according to police authorities, CNN reported.

The woman, identified as Lacheisa Pailin-Sheffer, 37, ran up to Rawlings-Blake and emptied a large cup of water over the mayor's head. The mayor's aides rushed to her help and started drying her off while her security unit apprehended the woman and placed her under arrest, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Pailin-Sheffer was charged with second-degree assault, said police.

"I didn't know what it was that she threw at me," Rawlings-Blake said when asked about the incident. "I hope it was water. It was more shocking than anything else," she added, according to Fox News.

The mayor was attending the Mondawmin Festival in Baltimore, an all-day event with live music, free food and representatives from city agencies as well as non-profit organizations. It is held near one of the locations where riots took place two months ago following the death of Freddie Gray, a man who died while in police custody. There was no immediate indication that the incident was related to the unrest in Baltimore that followed Gray's death.

Howard Libit, a spokesman for Rawlings-Blake, said that despite the incident, the mayor continued to participate in the day's events, spending time visiting several booths around the event before stopping by a basketball clinic.
