A woman from western Michigan was arrested for failing to renew her pet dog's license, reported Associated Press. According to Becky Rehr, 47, she drove to the Kalamazoo County sheriff's office on June 23 in order to show proof that she had recently renewed the license of the family's 11-year-old pet dog, Dexter. She was then placed under arrest, fingerprinted and detained for three hours while her 14-year-old daughter waited in the car, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette.

"They frisked me and put me in this intake cell with all these inmates in orange jumpsuits," Rehr said. "I was pretty nervous." Failure to obtain a dog license is an offense punishable by a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $100 fine.

County Animal Control Director Steve Lawrence said that his office reminded and cautioned Rehr several times via phone, e-mail as well as in person after Dexter's license expired. The last was a telephonic warning saying that a warrant would be issued in her name if she did not obtain a license by May 28, according to The Washington Post.

Rehr, who was originally scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in the Kalamazoo County District Court said she's no longer facing a misdemeanor charge after charges were dropped at the request of the prosecutor's office on Monday.
