The mother of a baby girl has been arrested after the infant was found abandoned on the side of a Maryland road. Sandra Clara McClary, who has been accused of taking the infant out of her car and leaving her there, is facing charges of child neglect and reckless endangerment, according to Anne Arundel County Police, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities released a picture early Sunday of the newborn child, believed to be between 2 and 3 months old, with the question, "Do you know the parent of this baby?" McClary contacted the authorities after she saw the post on social media. She initially told investigators the baby's father was supposed to have her, but neither of them knew where the child was, police said.

During her interrogation, investigators found that McClary was in the area where the abandoned infant was found. She "removed the child from the vehicle and left her on the side of the road," police said in a statement Sunday night.

Officers found the little girl just before midnight in a car sear carrier on the side of a residential street in Pasadena. A diaper bag was also found at the scene, which had scuff marks of unknown origin, according to CNN.

Authorities said that the investigation was underway and there were other people that would be questioned in connection to the infant's apparent abandonment. Until then, the baby has been placed in the care of the county's social services department, the police said, Washington Post reported.
