A St. Louis middle school teacher has been charged with sexual assault for allegedly sodomizing a student in 1996.

47-year-old James Wilder worked as an instructor at Sperreng Middle School until he was arrested on campus Tuesday afternoon, according to KMOV, a local news station in Mo.

Wilder faces six counts of second-degree statutory sodomy for engaging in oral sex with a 16-year-old student sometime between Aug. 1, 1996 and Sept. 21, 1997.

Court documents indicate that the victim attended Lindbergh High School as a sophomore at the time. Wilder coached the student, as he was the cross country and track team coach at LHS.

According to KMOV, officials involved in the case said during that period of time, Wilder was somewhat of a mentor figure to the victim.

Police are looking into whether there were any additional victims who have not yet stepped forward.

Wilder was arrested once before in 2008 on the same accusations, but could not come up with enough evidence to indict him. He was re-hired by the Lindbergh School District following a one month suspension.

Wilder is currently in jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.

Lindbergh School District sent a notice out on Wednesday, following an email Principal Dr. Mark Eggers issued, notifying parents of the arrest.

"Mr. Wilder has been placed on administrative leave until the police have completed their investigation," Lindbergh Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Simpson wrote. "We will cooperate fully with the St. Louis County Police and provide any information or assistance they request.
