Ian Somerhalder has found love and boasted about the "new girl" in his life on Instagram. Here's what we know about her: She's smart, beautiful, charming and her name is Nietzsche. She is also a very cute puppy the "Vampire Diaries" actor and "Fifty Shades" hopeful  rescued from traffic near the set of his hit show, Hollyscoop reports.

The 34-year-old split with his longtime girlfriend Nina Dobrev in May after three years of dating. According to Yahoo! Somerhalder also has three cats that live with him.

"I have three cats in my loft in Atlanta. One is a feral cat from Hawaii who grew up in the jungle, another one is rescued from a dungeon in New York and the other one's from Canada," he told People magazine in 2010.

It's no secret he is an avid animal lover. He is always tweeting to his more than four million followers about giving back and taking care of the planet. He was recently honored as a "remarkable global citizen" by Conde Nast Traveler.

He was honored because he is constantly using his fame and social media to raise awareness on global and environmental issues.

"We're building an animal sanctuary that's also going to double as a sustainable agriculture farm and triple as a youth education camp," he said in an interview. "When a young person comes to that farm, they leave with a different understanding of compassion."

"If you have compassion for an animal, ultimately you will have compassion for people," Somerhalder added.

His soft side for nature and animals is only one of the many reasons fans want the actor cast as Christian Grey in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey." He was a fan-favorite to star as the kinky billionaire until US weekly broke the news that he was allegedly no longer in the running after a source revealed that author E.L. James told people at a San Diego Comic-Con party that he was not being considered.
