There's been tons of "Fifty Shades of Grey" casting rumors but no official announcements just yet. According to The Wrap, Dakota Johnson is now a "serious contender" to play Anastasia Steele. Johnson, who got her start as a model, has made a fairly successful transition to film after she starred in "The Social Network."

She was the college student who slept with Justin Timberlake's character and introduced him to Facebook when she left it open on her computer. The 23-year-old is reportedly a star on the rise. The Wrap doesn't go into detail about where the information came and what makes this actress a top choice for Steele.

Some "Fifty Shades" fans were upset with the news because they think she does not look innocent enough. She's the right age for the role, her career is said to be promising and she has been a brunette before for other roles. This is the first time her name has mentioned. Fan-favorites to play the shy college student include Alexis Bledel, Emilia Clarke and Lucy Hale.

Another casting rumor surfaced recently when a male model tweeted that he had auditioned for the role of Christian Grey. Bryce Thompson responded to a tweet from a fan asking him if he was going to play Christian Grey. He responded saying "Just at audition phases. Working on it."

This sent Twitter users crazy with many fans commenting that they felt he would be perfect for the role. Physically Thompson could pull off playing the kinky billionaire. He's tall - 6'3 - has green eyes, brown hair and chiseled abs.

There's not much known about the model. He graced the cover of an international edition of Men's Health and describes himself as a "South African model, living in New York. Passionate photographer and an avid paintballer."

E.L. James nor anyone else from "Team 50" have responded to the latest rumors and there still has not been any official casting news. As reported earlier, James and producer Michael de Luca are both in Los Angeles and fans are hoping they have met to finally announce and reveal the cast. With less than a year until the movie hits theaters, casting news should be revealed very soon. It has also been reported that filming for the movie is scheduled to begin in the fall.

Another name mentioned to play the lead male character was "Pacific Rim" actor Charlie Hunnam. According to Twitch, he has emerged as a favorite of the producers to play the "handsome, yet tormented billionaire."

Hunnam and Thompson join actors Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer for the role while Johnson is up for the part of the college student against fan-favorites Alexis Bledel, Emilia Clarke and Lucy Hale.

Do you think it's taken too long to announce the "Fifty Shades of Grey" cast?
