Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez wrote a letter from jail describing his biggest fear and insisting he's "a great dude," RadarOnline.com reports. 

Radar posted a letter Hernandez mailed to Collin Imm, an apparent pen pal.  In the letter, postmarked July 17, Hernandez appears to be responding to a letter Imm originally sent.

Hernandez thanked him for the support, made small talk and implied being in jail was part of God's plan.  He also told his biggest fear.

"...My biggest fear of all is she wont know daddy!  She said daddy first time or should I say 'DaDa' and had to hear it from jail," Hernandez wrote.

Hernandez concluded and wrote, "P.S. Im a great dude don't believe all the neg. publicity please!"  He also asked Imm to keep the letter private.

The 23-year-old is being held without bail for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player and associate.  Hernandez is charged with first-degree murder and five-gun related charges, which he pleaded not guilty to.

Lloyd's body was found about a mile from Hernandez's North Attleboro, Mass., home on June 17.  The body was discovered in an industrial park with five gunshot wounds.  Police believe Hernandez orchestrated and executed the murder of Lloyd.

New court documents released last week indicate investigators believe Shayanna Jenkins, Hernandez's fiancée and baby's mother, might have hid the weapon used in Lloyd's murder.

Hey brotha, let me start by saying thanks for the support, it definitely means alot! Everything happens for a reason in life in both of our situations. Whatever obstacles/struggles will only make us stronger. We actually have something in common because my dream as a kid was to play in NBA an is still my favorite sport but had a better chance in football! Never be down from your incident because 'God' has a plan before all of us & that's why I'll never be down! Stay away from all negative people so your always there for your little boy cuz I miss by little girl terribly an my biggest fear of all is she wont know daddy! She said daddy first time or should I say 'DaDa' and had to hear it from jail. Im going fine but wanted to write you and definitely wanted to say thanks for the support!
