The cast of "Star Wars: Rogue One" continues to grow.

Variety is reporting that actor Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland") is in talks to join the first Anthology film in the planned series.

"Rogue One" reportedly occurs between Episode III and Episode IV, shortly before "A New Hope" kicks off. In addition to Whitaker, Variety also reported that Diego Luna ("Milk") was preparing to join the cast, though nothing official has come of that yet. Actress Felicity Jones ("The Theory of Everything") is already signed on as the lead.

Disney and Lucasfilm are reportedly interested in Jon Favreau ("Iron Man") or Matthew Vaughn ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") to direct "Star Wars: Rogue One" following the departure of Josh Trank ("Chronicle"). Favreau helped to kickstart Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe so his existing relationships with the company could make him the favorite. Vaughn has developed a following thanks to his stylish action sequences. However, he is currently writing the script for a "Kingsman" sequel and it's unclear if his schedule would permit him to work on "Rogue One."

"Rogue One" is due out in December of 2016.
