Ian Somerhalder fans are not giving up on the possibility that the "Vampire Diaries" star could be cast as Christian Grey in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey." Many people were crushed and saddened when US Weekly broke the news that Somerhalder reportedly wasn't ever going to be offered the lead role in the movie.

According to the magazine a source revealed that James was telling people at a San Diego Comic-Con party "that the part won't go to Ian." James never responded to the comment and as far as some "Fifty Shades" fans are concerned he is still a top contender.

The same source also revealed that Garrett Hedlund was offered the role but turned it down due to conflicts in his schedule.

"Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment, and producer wouldn't let him do just one film," the source said.

Somerhalder has been the most outspoken actor about playing in the movie. He recently told Ryan Seacrest during an interview on KIIS-FM that he never got tired of people asking him about the role of Christian Grey.

"I absolutely would be up for that. It could be very, very amazing," Somerhlader told Seacrest. "I have the book and I just started reading it. That would be a pretty incredible thing, and hopefully that could pan out."

If his fans have anything to do with the casting decision it will "pan out" for him to be the lead in the movie. Somerhalder's fans have continued to stand by him despite the disheartening news and his name still appears on casting polls not to mention his heavy presence on the Internet.

At one point, Somerhalder's name began trending on Twitter because of the support his fans are showing him s they continue to tweet to James urging her to change her mind. There is even a Twitter hashtag, #noiannomovie, that fans have been using to get the attention of anyone involved in "Fifty Shades of Grey."
