Experts Reveal Particle Pollution’s Adverse Effect To Health, Association With Lung Cancer [Report]

Experts just revealed that the worsening case of air pollution is doing more harm not only to the environment but to human's health particularly. With this, it has been claimed that particle pollution, one type of air pollution is directly associated with lung cancer.

Though ozone and particle pollution are both harmful to the health, the latter is more related to the causes of lung cancer. These medical experts that the components found in the particle pollution are dangerous to the lungs; thus, contributing to the development of cancer cells in the said organ.

According to U.S. News, particle pollution is composed of both solid and liquid particles. These particles, on the other hand, are comprised of different chemicals and biological components. The many sources of these particles include fossil fuels, diesel, as well as burning wood.

Dr. H. Kim Lyerly, professor of cancer research at the Duke University School of Medicine shared that these particles pollution is, in fact, smaller than the human hair. People are unaware that they breathe these particles in and worse, humans can get rid of these particles through coughing or sneezing. As a result, these particles flow into the lungs through the blood stream.

Aside from the above-mentioned claims by the experts, another agency supported the relation of particle pollution to lung cancer. This agency concluded in a report with World Health Organization that particle pollution is the prime contributor of lung cancer. In fact, these particles also act as human carcinogens, which people and experts know as the cancer-causing agent.

According to Science Blog, though it was already concluded that these particles can really cause lung cancer, still the experts are not certain on how it works when it gets in the body or its mechanism. Some sources were telling that these particles change the DNA of the person and may even weaken one's immune system.

Aside from lung cancer, particle pollution is also the culprit for other ailments and diseases like diabetes, heart disease, mental health problems and more chronic ones. The best remedy that people could do is to eliminate the sources of this particle pollution like the ones already mentioned.
