"Pitch Perfect 2" surprised even the most supportive box office analysts when it rocked out for nearly $70 million domestically in its opening weekend and has now grossed more than $250 million worldwide to date. With the Barden Bellas breaking bank like that against a $29 million budget, it was only a matter of time until Universal Studios started plans for a threequel.

Those plans begin today as The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Kay Cannon, the scriptwriter for the first two films, has been brought on board for "Pitch Perfect 3." However, no cast or director (Elizabeth Banks made her directorial debut on "PP2") has been confirmed at this point.

THR reports that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson both made $2 million each for "Pitch Perfect 2." Both would expect a significant raise if they plan to return for the third installment. But that may not happen.

"However, the popular assumption seems to be that Kendrick, who has blown up in Hollywood at this point, is done with the franchise," Shaunna Murphy of MTV.com wrote. "...and the addition of Hailee Steinfeld as a new, freshman Bella definitely lent itself to that particular theory."

None of this is confirmed at the moment but it's worth monitoring if you're an acca fan.
