More than 2,500 people have been quarantined and seven have died from the MERS outbreak in South Korea.

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) epidemic in the country is considered the largest incident that occurred outside Saudi Arabia.

On Tuesday, the seventh person died from the infection, while eight others have acquired the virus. As of today, there are a total number of 95 confirmed cases, CNN reported.

The 2,500 quarantined people are staying at their homes or in health facilities. Meanwhile, more than 2,000 schools are still closed.

Mainly adults and older patients are more vulnerable and could acquire the virus. Only one case for a young patient has been confirmed - a 16-year-old male.

Most recorded MERS deaths are among older adults with pre-existing health conditions.

The growing number of cases isn't the only challenge that South Korea faces. It also needs to answer the public's fear of the illness.

The disease, which originated in Saudi Arabia, surfaced three years ago and remains insufficiently understood because this virus is still new.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MERS spreads from close contact with an ill person, usually by living with them or caring for them.
