After multiple versions of the song were leaked online, Lady GaGa's team hurried to release an official version of "Applause" to iHeartRadio just hours after pop rival Katy Perry released her new single, "Roar." Lady GaGa's catchy new banger features a driving chorus and "staccato'ed synth stabs," and those at MTV suspect the early release of the highly anticipated single was purposefully done.

"A pop music emergency is underway 911," the singer tweeted earlier today, a response to hackers getting hold of and releasing a low-quality version of the song. Though some speculate the rush-release was part of a carefully crafted business plan to release the song on the same day as Katy Perry's, it's also likely that it was merely a coincidence, as both singers' music is highly coveted.

The lyrics and beat of "Applause" certainly return us to GaGa's "The Fame" era, according to MTV, as the track isn't quite as out-there as her singles from "Born This Way."

Meanwhile, Perry tries to set herself apart from her "Teenage Dream" candy-colored image with her latest single, "ROAR." In its teaser video, she ceremoniously burned the blue wig that became such an iconic part of her image during said era.

Both Katy Perry and Lady GaGa will release their new albums around the same time this fall, just in time for them to battle it out on the Billboard charts. Despite their alleged music fueds, the singers both deny such accusations, and have asked for their respective fans to stop fighting each other and all enjoy the new music instead of pitting the artists against each other.

Lady GaGa also announced that you'll be able to pre-order her fourth studio album, which will be released in two volumes, tonight on iTunes. True to her words ("I love for the applause"), the pop star seems over-the-moon at the positive reception to her new song so far, writing a series of all-caps tweets to express her excitement at the release of her new single, the first she's put out since "Marry The Night" from her 2011 release, "Born This Way."

Katy Perry's new album "Prism" will hit stores Oct. 22, while Lady GaGa's "ARTPOP" will be released on Nov. 11, though only time will tell whose album will leak in full first, and how it will have an effect on their sales and position on the Billboard charts.
