Senator Marco Rubio has apparently had some incidents with the law over the past 18 years.

A search of the Miami-Dade and Duval County court dockets has shown that the 44-year-old Republican from Florida and his wife, Jeanette, hold a record with 17 combined driving citations, The New York Times reported

The records date back to 1997 and Marco, who is running for president, was only accountable for four of the 17. His wife was responsible for 13 of them.

The incidents include speeding, driving through red lights and careless driving. On four separate occasions after the violations over the years, the couple has agreed to a take part in remedial driving courses.

All of these incidents took place before Marco was ever involved in politics. One was in 1997 for careless driving, another was in 2009 for speeding. After both of these incidents, he took driving courses and paid the fines.

He was told in 2011 that his license could be suspended after a camera caught him running a red light. His lawyer paid a fee, and everything was eventually dismissed. His fourth and final violation was in 2012 when he failed to obey a stop sign, but this was dismissed as well.

"Senator Rubio's license has always been in good standing," his lawyer, Alex Hanna, said in a statement. "This matter was resolved by the court system and at no point was the license suspended by the D.M.V."

His wife, on the other hand, has had many more violations, and it is unclear whether or not her license was ever suspended.

Marco's campaign has made no comments on his traffic violations or the current stance of Jeanette's license.
