Godzilla may be a fictional character, but that didn't stop him from getting his citizenship in Japan!

The beloved monster from "Godzilla" who attacked Japan in the 1984 movie has officially became a citizen in that very country.

While it may seem ridiculous, Godzilla's new found citizenship in Japan is no joke. A picture of his official certificate can be seen in the tweet below:

The certificate says that Godzilla was born on April 9, 1954 and lives at Shinjuku-ku, Kabuki-cho, 1-19-1, according to a BBC translation of the document.

Godzilla has special residency because he is "promoting the entertainment of and watching over the Kabuki-cho neighborhood and drawing visitors from around the globe." The certificate also says that Godzilla visited Shinjuku Ward three times - "Godzilla" (1984), "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" (1991) and "Godzilla 2000 Millennium" (1999).

As one of the newest citizens of Japan, Godzilla will be a tourism ambassador. He is already doing his job and attracting fans, as the Shinjuku City Office already distributed more than 3,000 copies of Godzilla's certificate to excited fans in his honor.
