Known for his quick wit and sometimes sarcastic, abrasive humor, TV screenwriter-turned-actor Seth MacFarlane took the opportunity at Sunday night's Critics' Choice TV Awards to openly criticize himself and the reality show "Duck Dynasty."

"Let's not forget, I'm being called a genius on the network that airs 'Duck Dynasty.' They believe hurricanes are caused by gay marriage. I wish I were joking," MacFarlane said during his speech for winning the Louis XIII Genius Award, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

He further said that "being called a genius in Hollywood is like being called thin at Disneyland," the publication added.

MacFarlane's critique of "Duck Dynasty" came on the heels of interviews conducted by the show's patriarch, Phil Robertson, that reflect his fundamentalist Christian values and do not favor homosexuality, according to the Examiner.

The Robertson family are the stars of the A&E reality show, which showcases their business of making products for duck hunters.

Robertson had interviews air on YouTube that others, including MacFarlane, perceive as "backward, homophobic and sexist," the publication added.

MacFarlane—who created the Fox series "Family Guy," "The Cleveland Show" and "American Dad"—also starred with Charlize Theron in the comedy "A Million Ways to Die in the West."
