Tracy Morgan struggled to keep his composure during this first interview since the fatal crash that left him seriously injured and killed his good friend James "Jimmy Mack" McNair.

Morgan and his lawyer Benedict Morelli sat down with Matt Lauer on "Today" Monday morning to speak about the loss of his friend and give an update on his recovery. The interview came less than a week after the "30 Rock" star settled a lawsuit with Wal-Mart for an undisclosed amount over the crash that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike in the early hours of June 7, 2014.

"The case is settled, but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mac," Morgan said before he broke down talking about his fellow comedian.

The 46-year-old actor-comedian didn't learn about McNair's death until two weeks after he came out of his coma. The last time he saw his friend was at their show in Delaware. McNair had written a Donald Sterling joke for Morgan which got a big laugh from the audience and even McNair himself.

"I look to the side and I see Jimmy standing there laughing and that was the last time I seen him alive," he said.

Morgan doesn't remember the accident but looked up videos on YouTube where he also came across a video of McNair's funeral. He explained that he searched for the accident videos because "he had to know what happened to his friend."

As for his own injuries, Morgan spoke mainly about his head trauma which has caused him to have "good days" and "bad days." He has suffered headaches and nosebleeds as well as forgetting things from time to time.

The "Saturday Night Live" veteran also revealed that he usually travels with his family to his comedy gigs, but he left his fiancé, Megan Wollover, at home with their baby girl Maven, who had just started teething.

"I know when I look at that accident I don't think, my daughter was 10 months old, she wouldn't have made it and Megan wouldn't have made it," Morgan said.

His attorney Morelli also expressed their appreciation to the hospital staff at JFK Medical Center. He and Morgan also thanked Walmart for taking full responsibility for the accident and taking care of McNair's family in their settlement.

Morgan plans to heal and get better before he returns to performing and comedy.

"I love comedy. I'll never stop loving her... I can't wait to get back to her," he said and also admitted he's not 100 percent yet. "When I'm there, you'll know it. I'll get back to making you laugh."

After his interview, Morgan sent out his first tweet since the accident. His last tweet came on June 3 promoting his show at Dover Downs in Dover, Del.
