Just two months after "Empire" wrapped up its freshman season, the show has already scheduled a premiere date for its second season - and the announcement was made by the show's star Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie.

Henson broke the news on Twitter Friday morning. after a fan asked the actress when season two of the hip-hop drama would premiere, she replied, "Hello! September 23 #Empire season [2]."

That's right - Fox network has officially scheduled season two to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m.

The official Empire writers Twitter handle confirmed that date with some hashtags, writing, "#Empire fans! @EmpireFOX Season 2 returns Wednesday, September 23, 2015! #MarkYourCalendars #GameTimeBitches."

TheWrap previously reported that the show's sophomore season will include 18 episodes, split into two cycles. The upcoming season will include guest appearances from comedian Chris Rock and singers Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz.

Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe (Becky) and actress Ta'Rhonda Jones (Porsha) have signed on to become series regulars. Grammy winner Ne-Yo will also contribute original music for the new episodes.

The show was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong and also stars Terrence Howard, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Y. Gray and Trai Byers.

"Empire" finished as the season's No. 1 broadcast entertainment series in the 18-49-year-old demographic. The Fox hip-hop drama drew an average of 16.7 million viewers for its two-hour Season 1 finale in March.
