At least 10 people were killed and around 30 were wounded when car bombs exploded at two hotels in Baghdad, Iraq, reported Euro News.

Explosions occurred just before midnight (21:00 GMT). The first explosion went off near the Babylon hotel where government officials often hold meetings and news conferences, Aljazeera reported.

It appeared to have been coordinated to the second which exploded near the Cristal hotel (old Sheraton hotel).

Both hotels are popular with wealthy patrons as well as members of NGOs and journalists. The areas are especially busy on Thursday nights.

The explosions were said to be significant in terms of planning and execution since both hotels maintain high security with all vehicles and entrances thoroughly checked, reported Yahoo! News.

The night-time curfew was lifted in Baghdad in February. Since then, bombing rates have increased.
