A baby gorilla was born at Tennessee's Knoxville Zoo early this morning!

This tiny monkey was the first ever gorilla birth at the Knoxville Zoo, so it has staff, locals and animal-lovers alike very excited.

"We are thrilled," Lisa New, executive director of Knoxville Zoo, told Local 8 Now. "This is a wonderful moment for Knoxville, and we hope our community is as proud as we are."

The so far unnamed baby was born to Hope, a 31-year-old gorilla who formerly lived in Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.

Hope came to Knoxville as part of the Western Lowland Gorilla Species Survival Plan, reported Local 8 Now.

The gorilla exhibit is closed off for the time being so Hope can bond with her new baby - who is her fourth child - before she is ready to share him with the public eye.

Zoo staff are keeping a close eye on the animals and said they appear to be doing well in the hours since the delivery.
