A lot of talk has gone into female superheroes having their own big screen adventures, but what about their male love interests?

Chris Pine may solve that problem in the DC Universe playing Steve Trevor in the upcoming Warner Bros. movie, "Wonder Woman," starring Gal Gadot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Steve Trevor has served as the love interest for Diane Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman since 1941 when he first appeared in "All-Star Comics" No. 8.  In early editions, Wonder Woman fell in love with the U.S. Army Officer when he crashed landed on Paradise Island and she nursed him back to health.

Although Wonder Woman usually saved him in the comics, Steve held a considerable amount of sway in their romantic relationship especially when it came to marriage. He was later pushed out of the stories and eventually killed off twice in 1968 and 1978.

"The New 52" relaunch in 2011 used Steve's original storyline of crash landing on Paradise Island, but this time he was an ex-boyfriend of Wonder Woman. She had moved on, but the Army Officer was still struggling to get over the break up.

Gadot will make her debut as Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" next March opposite Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman.

Last month, Patty Jenkins replaced Michelle MacLaren as director for the solo "Wonder Woman," which is set to premiere on June 23, 2017.

Pine will star in the "Wet Hot American Summer" reboot series on Netflix this summer. He'll also star in the Coast Guard epic "The Finest Hours" next January and start production on the third "Star Trek" film soon.
