David Duchovny could not help but be emotional reading through the latest of "The X-Files" scripts that he would again shoot with co-star Gillian Anderson.

Duchovny described himself as "strangely emotional and teary-eyed" as he read the first page of the script of the six-episode re-run of "the X-Files," according to Entertainment Weekly.

The show was one of the longest running science fiction TV series that aired from 1993 to 2002 on Fox. It tackled mind-bending conspiracy theories and even alien investigations led by its characters Fox Mulder (played by Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson).

"The X-Files" also made the career of Duchovny, who recently starred in a new series called "Aquarius" on NBC.

Duchovny said he would not hesitate to do more if asked, Entertainment Weekly reported. Aside from Anderson and Duchovny reviving their title roles, other popular characters, including the Cigarette Smoking Man (played by William B. Davis) and FBI Chief Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), are to make a comeback.

Creator Chris Carter would still be back at the helm of the "The X-Files," while other original writers, James and Glen Morgan would be penning the limited episodes. However, writer Vince Gilligan would not be supporting the "the X-Files" revival, according to ComicBookResources.com.

Fox is expected to run "the X-Files" on Jan. 24, 2016.
