Johnyy Depp could face up to 10 years in prison or a maximum $340,000 fine as a punishment for smuggling his dogs Pistol and Boo into Australia in April.

At the latest Senate committee hearing both politicians and public servants agreed that Depp's undeclared importing of his two Yorkshire terriers into the country was a "very serious" issue, reported Sydney Morning Herald.

Depp, 51, was caught after getting his pups Pistol and Boo groomed and posting a picture of them on his Facebook page.

Depp's pilot could also face up to two years in prison because he knew of the dogs entering the country and also failed to report them.

When the Australian government initially learned of Depp's dogs illegally entering the country Barnaby Joyce, the country's agriculture minister, said he needed to send his dogs back to the U.S. or they will be destroyed.

Under Australian law if you bring a pet into the country you must collect proper certification and permits, and have them quarantined for 10 days so they don't spread disease.

Instead of following that process Depp flew the dogs in on his private plane and asked his wife, Amber Heard, to watch the animals while he filmed the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie in the Gold Coast.
