Pac-Man recently celebrated its 35th anniversary and hopes to captivate a new generation of gamers when the game comes to smartphones and tablets this summer.

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that the upcoming game will be titled "Pac-Man 256," which is a reference to the glitch that affected the 1980 game that saw half of Level 256 filled with random characters, according to the Irish Examiner.

The game will be a free release with in-app purchases in which players attempt to outrun the pesky ghosts, as well as the historic glitch, which will be a full-fledged villain in its own right.

The new app features new mazes while Pac Man will also get some new treats like birthday cakes to munch on, reported Autoo Mobile.

Bandai Namco hasn't confirmed a concrete release date for the free-to-play game that will be available for smartphones and tablets.
