Rumors about Google splitting off the photo features of Google+ into a separate app had been making their rounds on the internet. With the company's approaching I/O 2015 event, the first images of the Android version have been leaked, reported Slash Gear.

Google is expected to announce Android M, which is the code name for the latest version of the mobile OS, in which a new photo app plays a big part.

The improved app, simply called Photos, features a more intuitive interface making both navigation and picture editing easier. One highlight of the app is the Assistant that can be used to create collages, albums, and movies, as well as edit and apply effects to images.

New gestures can also be used with Photos, like pinch-to-zoom into photos, swiping to get out of them, and touch and dragging to select multiple images. Photo organization will also be much easier with face-matching, options to sort by day and month and a tile layout similar to the current album view of Google+ on the web.

The Android Police shared exclusive photos to the new Google Photos App where you can get a more detailed look at the new features of the app.

Google acquired photo-sharing service Odysee in February this year allowing users to backup and share photos and videos offline. More info about the Photo app from Google will be released at the I/O event that starts on May 28.
