An ambush in Kenya left at least eight police officers injured after al-Shabaab militants ambushed their vehicles at Yumbis in Fafi sub-county, Garissa County, according to Daily Nation. At least 20 officers are feared dead, according to another report by The Standard.

The attack occurred on Monday night. Officers who were able to escape said four police vehicles were burned by the militants, according to Daily Nation. The police vehicles were part of a convoy headed to Yumbis to rescue colleagues who were attacked Monday afternoon. Three officers were injured in the earlier attack when their vehicle ran over a landmine, according to The Standard.

Militants raided mosques, raised a flag and "preached" for hours in the same area on Thursday last week, according to both sources. Kenyan security claims to have stopped a planned attack by the al-Shabaab gunmen on a village in Fafi constituency at the Kenya-Somalia border. The gunmen were reportedly led by wanted al-Shabaab leader Mohamed Kuno alias Gamadhere, who is believed to have been involved in the shooting at Garissa University College that ultimately left 148 dead.
