Taylor Swift has had a very historic night at the Billboard Music Awards.

The pop star won eight awards in total, making her the most decorated artist in Billboard history. She now has a total of 20 wins, surpassing Garth Brooks' record of 19 wins, according to the Washington Post.

Two of the awards she received were the gongs for Top Female Artist, as well as Billboard 200 Album for her fifth studio outing "1989".

The 25-year-old also unveiled her new music video for her latest single "Bad Blood" on the same night. The action-packed video featured numerous celebrities, namely Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Ellie Goulding, Mariska Hargitay, Jessica Alba, Ellen Pompeo and Hayley Williams of Paramore.

"It's unbelievable that the fans went out and proved what they proved this year, and that's the only reason I won eight awards," said the singer in an interview with The Associated Press just moments after receiving her awards.

She added, still in disbelief of what has transpired: "Is it eight? Did I win eight awards? Yeah, sick."

While Swift was riding high with her never-ending success, rapper Kanye West was having a rather horrific night. The 38-year-old closed the show with a performance of his songs "All Day" and "Black Skinhead." The performance, however, was received negatively by the audience.

Other artists who won awards include Pharrell, Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea, all of whom won three awards each.

One Direction, who have been reduced to a four-piece, won two awards, one of them being Top Duo or Group. The group dedicated the awards to their former bandmate and "brother" Zayn Malik, who left the band in March.

John Legend, Meghan Trainor, Enrique Iglesias, Jason Aldean and Hozier also won two awards each.

Artists who performed include Van Halen, who opened the show, Britney Spears featuring Iggy Azalea, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
