Wizards veteran Paul Pierce had the chance to come up big with another important shot, this time an open 3-pointer to tie the game with under 10 seconds left in regulation. Pierce missed it, though, and the Hawks went on to win 106-101 and tie the series at two games apiece.

The Hawks led for most of the game and held off several near-rallies by Washington. Atlanta built an early lead by aggressively attacking the paint, which included having its backcourt - coach Mike Budenholzer opted to play two point guards, Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroder - drive frequently to the rim, and then later kicking it out to the open shooters when Washington began overcompensating down low.

Teague, who had a key 3-pointer late in the fourth, led with 26 points and eight assists, bigmen Paul Millsap and Al Horford combined for 37 points and 15 rebounds, and Schroder added 14 points and eight assists.

"To me, personally, I think this is the best we've played all series," Millsap, who didn't start because of flu-like symptoms, told the Associated Press. "Thirty assists, the way we played defense, the way we stepped up, the way we helped each other, the way we moved the basketball, the way we set screens."

Washington, meanwhile, was without star John Wall for the third straight game. Although the Wizards were able to win Game 3 on a game-winner by Pierce, their luck didn't carry over into Game 4. Wizards guard Bradley Beal led all scorers with 34 points, Pierce added 22, and Ramon Sessions chipped in with 13.

Wall is a game-time decision for Wednesday night, but fans shouldn't be too hopeful.
