"CSI" ushered in a new wave of police investigation dramas when it premiered in 2000, but after 15 seasons and three spinoffs, CBS has cancelled the flagship series.

But hope still exists for fans who want to see closure for the ground-breaking series. According to Vulture, CBS may air a TV movie next season to wrap up loose ends. CBS has not confirmed such plans or the show's official cancellation just yet.

If a TV movie does happen, it will likely be written by "CSI" creators Anthony Zuiker and Ann Donahue, according to Entertainment Weekly. CBS also is interested in welcoming back William Petersen, who served as team leader Gil Grissom for the first nine seasons.

Season 15 ended with Nick Stokes (George Eads) leaving Las Vegas for San Diego and fellow team member Julie "Finn" Finlay (Elisabeth Shue) still in coma after her encounter with the Gig Harbor Killer (Mark-Paul Gosselaar). Eads had starred on the show since its inception.
