Warning: Possible Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

There has been considerable speculation regarding the lineage of Daisy Ridley's character Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

It is believed that she is either the daughter of Jedi Luke Skywalker, giving her a powerful family name to live up to. Or it's possible that she is the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia (and possibly the sister of villain Kylo Ren?) which comes with its own set of expectations. Either way, Rey will be a central figure in the new "Star Wars" films and it would make sense to connect her to the original trilogy in some way.

"..rumors are speculating that she is the daughter of Luke Skywalker, and therefore has the genes of a Jedi," Jon Niles of MStarsNews.com wrote. "This could open up a lot of possibly future story lines involving a new Jedi master.

"Other rumors suggest that Han Solo and Leia would be her parents, which still has the Jedi lineage, but with more attitude."

Rey could be the person Luke is referring to in the voice over from the second teaser trailer when he says "You have that power, too."

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy noted this week in an interview that family is very important to Rey and is one of the prominent themes in the film.

"I was particularly taken by the fact that she kept talking about her family," Kennedy said of Ridley. "Her mom, her sisters...we began to realize that many of the things about Daisy are things that are inside the character..."

Ridley herself also touched on the similarities between Rey and Luke. "I've said that I'm solitary, that's probably a big clue as to what it is."

Continuing the focus of familial dynamics would allow this new trilogy to share many of the same thematic elements as the original. It would also up the drama and stakes for these new characters, especially if Rey and Kylo Ren have any connection.

"The Force Awakens" will hit theaters on Dec. 18.
