Facebook has upgraded one of its features in order to give users more control over the personal information they share on apps.

This feature comes in the form of a new version of Facebook Login, which lets users choose which information can be accessed by apps. Users previously complained about having to share personal information with apps and not having a choice over what information these apps received, according to The Indian Express.

Facebook Login gives users this new power with an "Edit the info you provide" prompt, and will also highlight who sees content posted by apps on the site, PCWorld reported. The company is also looking to give users more security by making it so third-party developers can't access the birthday, photos, likes and similar information about a user's friends who also use the app. Users will also be able to remove apps they believe are asking for unnecessary information.

The social networking giant first introduced Facebook Login at F8 2014 with plans to upgrade apps on April 30, 2015.

By providing users with new privacy tools, Facebook believes more people will log in through its site, resulting in an increase in developers for the company.

"If people don't feel comfortable logging into Facebook, then we don't have a platform," said Simon Kross, a product manager at Facebook.

Facebook will make the new Login available to users this week.
