After seeing reboots of several shows that were thought to have been long gone - like "Full House" or "The X Files," for instance - "Friends" fans just can't accept that the series hasn't resurfaced yet (the show has been off the air since 2004).

Well, it looks like they'll have to invest their energy into something else, as "Friends" co-creator Marta Kauffman dished out some bad news.

"Nope, never gonna happen," Kauffman told TheWrap during an interview about her new Netflix series, "Grace and Frankie."

Besides, as Kauffman pointed out, as much as fans want to see a reunion by the gang - Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe and Ross - they could be disappointed by the new dynamic, should the show ever come back to life with the same cast.

"That show was about a time in your life when your friends are your family," Kauffman said. "Once you begin to have a family of your own, that is no longer the case, and your priorities shift. So the show is over."

This explanation is a bit vague, as friendships don't just disappear in real life when people have families, but that's not the point. "Friends" will not be making a comeback, at least not at this point in time.

Kauffman also said that if the series came back, it likely wouldn't hold up to the "fond memories" associated with the beloved characters and their respective stories, according to TheWrap.

"It's much better that people want it, than that they get it and don't like it," Kauffman said. "The fear is, well, it'll never be what it was."

"Friends" fanatics will just have to settle with that response - and the fear of the unknown - until someone else comes up with another plot of the same caliber.

So, while Kauffman stands by her and co-creator David Crane's decision to leave "Friends" off the remake list, fans can still binge watch the series on Netflix - where Kauffman's new comedy "Grace and Frankie" premieres on May 8.
