UPDATE: Joni Mitchell's official website has denied the report from TMZ that the 71-year-old singer has fallen into a coma. She remains in the hospital from her accident earlier this month.

"She comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected," the website read. "As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts."

Her close friend, Leslie Morris, has filed court documents to obtain a conservatorship over the 71-year-old singer, who has no close relatives to assume the role, according to TMZ.

The documents included a line about Mitchell's health being "so impaired as to be incapable of being assessed," which simply gives Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital, according to Mitchell's website.

Earlier this month, Mitchell was found unconscious in her Los Angeles home on March 31. She regained consciousness as the ambulance rushed her to UCLA Medical Center, where she has remained. Her camp reported that she was "awake and in good spirits," shortly after her arrival.

The "Big Yellow Taxi" singer revealed that she suffers from a little-known but deadly disease called Morgellons. It's unknown what causes the controversial affliction, but many conspiracy theorists have tried to tie to genetically-modified ingredients. Science is leaning more toward body-eating bacteria.
