Aston Martin announced Thursday, a new technical partnership with Mercedes-Benz performance division AMG, which will allow the British car maker to develop its future car models with bespoke V8 powertrains.

Aston Martin signed a letter of intent Thursday, with Mercedes-AMG GmbH, a high-performance brand of German multinational automotive corporation Daimler AG. The technical partnership will allow the British car-maker to use AMG engines in the future versions of its coupes/ convertibles and sedans.

Mercedes-AMG GmbH will develop newly tailored V8 powerstrains and grant the British company access to its certain electronic/electric components. In return, AMG will own five percent stake in the company and an observer placed on the Aston board but no voting rights.

Britain's exclusive sports car making company will use German technology but will continue to keep the engineering bit intact.

"Aston Martin sources cutting edge technology from key suppliers around the globe and the opportunity to include content from Mercedes-AMG GmbH in our next generation sports cars is, clearly, good news," Aston Martin Product Development Director Ian Minards, said in a statement. "Working with Mercedes-AMG in this way while, of course, remaining independent and preserving the unique character and style of Aston Martin that has been the mainstay of the company throughout its 100-year history, points to a very bright future for the company as it starts its second century in business."

The next generation models with AMG powered engines will take a few years before they are debuted in the market. The company will continue to manufacture its elite sports cars at its Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire, England.

Both the companies will sign official agreements before the end of the year as they are subject to regulatory approvals.
